BEY ORO: A LIFE WELL LIVED, A LEGACY ASSURED

BEY ORO was foaled on March 24, 1980, and passed away on December 17, 2007 at age 27. He was bred and owned for his lifetime by Mark and Tania Dunlap of Spring Valley Ranch and was one of the first registered get of the immortal BEY SHAH+, bred by Lester and Jennie Walton. His dam FAIRA was bred by Lester and Jennie Walton, who had also bred BEY SHAH+ and owned or co-owned him till he was 7 years old. Thus BEY ORO was of all Walton breeding; and the Waltons bred numerous National Champions in their many years with Arabians.

Because of his heavy breeding commitments, BEY ORO was only shown twice. The first time he competed against 60 stallions in the four year old stallion class at Scottsdale in 1984 (which was far larger than US National stallion classes now!). He was then shown at Santa Rosa where he was named show champion stallion. Judges were impressed with BEY ORO’s exceptional size (a true 16 hands), structure and presence.

BEY ORO’s show career may have been brief, but his career as a sire of champions was not. Two of his daughters won very large classes at Scottsdale. PROCLIVITY won a class of 37 two year old fillies in 1987 and was subsequently exported to Brazil. RS VELVET MISST won a class of 29 two year old fillies and went on to be named Scottsdale Reserve Champion Mare in 1989, and Region 10 Reserve Champion Mare in 1990. They set the standard for his many winning get who followed them.

Although BEY ORO never competed under saddle, he became known as an excellent sire of performance horses early on in his breeding career, with get winning in disciplines as diverse as English pleasure and hunter over fences, as well as competing successfully in endurance and winning races on the track, including FORFEIT SV, who finished in the money in 24 of his 30 lifetime starts and won multiple races. BEY ORO get have also competed successfully in open dressage shows against all breeds.

Through the end of the 2010 show season, 60 BEY ORO get had achieved championships in Arabian competition. In 2008, BEY ORO was ranked second as a Sport Horse Payback Sire, a title he richly deserved as many of his get have excelled in sport horse competition. BEY ORO’s nine National winners are: Canadian Top Ten Half-Arabian Sport Horse Under Saddle and Hunter Hack and U.S. Top Ten Training Level Dressage JTR 14-17 CRIMSON ILLUSION+, U.S. National Champion Half-Arabian Hunter Hack JTR, Canadian Reserve National Champion Half-Arabian Hunter Hack, Canadian National Champion Half-Arabian Working Hunter and Hunter JTR BEYTHOVEN (who has 17 National titles in all), U.S. Top Ten Sport Horse Show Hack (twice), Second Level Dressage and Third Level Dressage ATR CRIMZAN BEY+//, Canadian Top Ten Western Pleasure Junior Horses MISTEA ORO BEY and EBONY BEY B, U.S. National Champion Mare AOTH and 6 time National Champion in hunt pleasure OROZABA++//, U.S. National Champion Half-Arabian Sport Horse Stallion, Top Ten Half-Arabian Green Working Hunter and Sport Horse Under Saddle Junior Horse SIGNAL BEY++, U.S. National Champion Training Level Dressage AOTR, Training Level Dressage ATR and First Level Dressage and U.S. Reserve National Champion Training Level Dressage GC LAKOTA+// and 2010 U.S. National Champion Second Level Dressage AOTR, Second Level Dressage ATR and Third Level Dressage ATR and Top Ten Third Level Dressage SMOKE AND MIRRORZ+/. In 2012, the 18 year old Anglo-Arab BEY ORO daughter ALMOST CRIMSON+/ was named U.S. Reserve National Champion Training Level Dressage JOTR 13/UnderTop Ten First Level Dressage JOTR 13/Under and First Level Dressage JTR 13/Under.

BEY ORO get have been as successful in the breeding barn as they are in competition. BEY ORO daughters are noted producers. BEY ISIS is the dam of U.S. Top Ten Hunt Pleasure Futurity LADS BOUQUET. BEY KHEPRICE produced U.S. Top Ten Western Pleasure JTR 14-17 HH HIGH STAKES and of Canadian Reserve National Champion Hunt Pleasure 18-39 AATR and Top Ten Hunt Pleasure AOTR 18-39 and Hunt Pleasure AOTR 40/Over HH HIGH SPIRIT. OROZABA++// is the dam of U.S. Top Ten Hunt Pleasure Futurity ALADA ZABA BCR. GC SATIN DOLL produced 9 time National winner MILLENIALPSYCHE M, a multi-National Champion in Western Pleasure. AM GLORIANA BEY is the dam of multi-regional halter champion and Canadian Top Ten Hunt Pleasure JTR 14-17 GOLD DIGGER V+. ALMOST CRIMZAN+/ produced U.S. National Champion Half-Arabian Sport Horse Under Saddle Junior Horse, Top Ten Half-Arabian Sport Horse Under Saddle and Green Working Hunter GLITTER BEY. His most famous daughter, CITATION OF MERIT, has produced 6 champions and 4 National winners, 3 of them National Champions: U.S. Top Ten Hunt Pleasure Maturity AOTR C A GALAN, U.S. National Champion Hunt Pleasure Junior Horse and multi-regional halter winner C A ELEGANTE+// (who has 8 National titles), 13 time National winner C A HERMANO+// (a National Champion in English Sidesaddle and multi-National Champion Hunt Pleasure), and C A ULTIMO+// (who has 38 National titles including 20 National Championships or Reserves in hunt pleasure and English sidesaddle).

BEY ORO’s success as a sire is the direct result of his carefully planned heritage. BEY ORO is a son of BEY SHAH+, at one time the breed’s leading living sire of champions and still one of the breed’s all time leading sire of National winners in halter. BEY ORO’s dam FAIRA is by Canadian Top Ten Stallion and National winner sire RASEYN GEZAN, a grandson of National Champion sire ABU FARWA. RASEYN GEZAN’s dam NADIR is a maternal sister to National Champion producer BINT SAHARA, one of the breed’s all time leading dams of champions (a total of 11). FAIRA is out of FADULEIKA, dam of Canadian National Champion Mare and U.S. Top Ten Mare, Western Pleasure and Trail FATEENA++. This dam line has produced such National Champions as multi-National Champion Informal Combination BON VIVANT V+// and Canadian Reserve National Champion Futurity Colt SHAH EL BEY++ and National winner sires SHAH JAMEEL and SHAHVAGO. FADULEIKA is by U.S. Reserve National Champion Stallion FADJUR, maternal grandsire of U.S. National Champion Stallion KHEMOSABI+++/.

A STOP-YOU-IN-YOUR-TRACKS-BEAUTIFUL quarter horse stallion. He is our gentle giant. He has credentials in the quarter horse circuit and has the type of face and balance I appreciate as a breeder of Arabian horses. He posesses a higher set and more elegant shape to his neck than most quarter horses. That characteristic combined with his long hip, smoth loin and short back stronly influenced my decision to aquire him to breed to my Arabian mares. A high percentage of colored foals is an added bonus.

His half Arabian foals are STUNNING !
